Current Pittsburgh Steelers Linebacker T. J. Watt announce NFL retirement today

The Pittsburgh Steelers have built one of the most fascinating quarterback rooms in the NFL.

After signing for Russell Wilson, and trading for former first-round pick Justin Fields, the Steelers have thrown the playbook wide open when it comes to options as the starting quarterback as well as various scheme possibilities with both on the field at once.

“Justin is obviously one of the most talented guys in the NFL,” Wilson told Tim Benz of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on Wednesday. “You know all the things he can do.

The player, the quarterback that he is. He’s dynamic. It’s all about us winning.

That’s the focus. I think it would strike fear in some defenses, that’s for sure.”

Whether new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith is up to the task of getting the most out of Fields and Wilson’s skill-sets, but, there’s a palpable intrigue inside the league for the possibilities.

“Just imagine what Fields could do in short-yardage situations,” the executive told me recently.

“Justin could be really effective near the goal line. Plus, if it just isn’t Russ’s game, Fields could open up the running game a lot more with him in there at quarterback.”

The player, the quarterback that he is. He’s dynamic. It’s all about us winning.

That’s the focus. I think it would strike fear in some defenses, that’s for sure.”
