Brodric Martin was activated from injured reserve this week, adding more defensive line depth for the Detroit Lions.
But the Lions aren’t planning on rushing the former third-round pick into action.
Martin has continued to progress and got to a point in his recovery where the team was able to get him on the main roster.
However, he remains in developmental territory, with the Lions feeling good about their defensive line rotation.
Martin is fresh off winning scout team player of the week in practice for his efforts against All-Pro center Frank Ragnow, though.
And the Lions are making it clear that while they’re exercising patience, they aren’t down or out on Martin.
“And then I say this about every player on our team: You’ve got to earn your keep here, and he’s earning it by getting scout team player of the week,” Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn said.
“So as he continues to move forward, listen, we don’t want to just throw that player out there; we want to continue to get him to practice, and he’s doing a good job of that.
“And once he gets to the point to where we feel like he’s ready to go out there and compete on game day, we’ll get him up and get him ready.”
When MLive asked Glenn about what Martin did to earn the practice recognition, the defensive coordinator kept it simple.
“When you go against a man like Ragnow, and you see it on tape, that’s easy to figure out, and he (Martin) did a good job of that.”
