The Red Devils have been heavily linked with Andre since the summer.
But Fluminense did not want to sell the 22-year-old player mid-season, so he stayed in Brazil.
After helping his club reach the Copa Libertadores final on Saturday, Andre looks set to head to Europe in the new year.
And speaking on the Full Loaded Transfer Show – a podcast based at Newcastle United – journalist Graeme Bailey let slip that the Brazilian “could” join Liverpool.
“This weekend there is the Copa Libertadores final and there are a number of players that Newcastle have been in contact with,” Bailey explained.
“Valentin Barco to Boca and also Andre, the midfielder could go to Liverpool in January.
” Given the way this story is going, it will be hugely disappointing if Liverpool don’t bring Andre to Anfield next year.
Before this summer’s games, many Reds fans would have never heard of the Fluminense man.
But that’s now and they’re excited about it.
And why wouldn’t they?
At the age of 22, Andre looks ready to step in and make an immediate impact for Liverpool.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano is just one of his fans, calling midfielder Flu “someone special” in a recent edition of the podcast Here We Go.
When Jurgen Klopp searches for the right man to tackle the problem When it comes to his defensive midfielder, the Brazilian international could very well be that guy.
Surely, if another Premier League team – like Newcastle – were to sneak up on him, Red Devils fans would be distraught.
Luckily, it looks like Liverpool are now leading the chase.
If the Reds still want Andre, there doesn’t seem to be much stopping them from getting it.
With just a couple of months until January and the Copa final on Saturday this is going to start to heat up over the next few weeks.
