Nottingham Forest star suffers fresh injury setback on international duty…

Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has suffered another injury setback on international duty with Nigeria.

The 26-year-old only recently recovered from a groin injury, which saw him miss multiple games for Steve Cooper’s side.

He made his return in the 3-0 defeat against Liverpool as a substitute, before starting against Aston Villa and West Ham United.

Although he scored against David Moyes’ side, it was evident that the striker wasn’t fully fit and still not 100% after his latest setback.

Awoniyi started Nigeria’s latest game against Lesotho, as they drew 1-1, however, the Forest forward was substituted in the 66th minute.

There was no indication of a reoccurrence of his groin problem at the time, but the Nigerian Football Association released a statement on the striker’s fitness yesterday.

They confirmed that the 26-year-old had returned to Forest after an issue with his groin, potentially just as a precaution.

The news may be of concern to Forest fans, with all fingers crossed that he will be fit to play Brighton next Saturday.

The striker has continued his brilliant form from last season, with Awoniyi scoring four times in the Premier League this season – making him the Reds’ top scorer.

It has been clear to see in recent weeks that the 26-year-old hasn’t been fully fit after his injury problems, with questions raised when he was selected during this break.

Hopefully, it is just a precaution, with Awoniyi able to rest up before the return of the Premier League next weekend
