Scott worked at Carrow Road in the early years of Stuart Webber’s tenure as sporting director, and is widely credited for spotting eventual club-record sale Emi Buendia.
He also masterminded the signing of Teemu Pukki on a free transfer as well as numerous others, as a squad he helped build stormed to two Championship titles.
The former Wolves scout left City in 2021 to become Boro’s head of football, overseeing a steady incline in the north east since that move.
His side look to be back on a positive trajectory this season, and Scott believes he’s forming a similar connection with head coach Michael Carrick to the one he had with former City boss Daniel Farke.
Chris (Jones, former Norwich scout and current head of scouting at Middlesbrough) and the guys are seeing that and the more we get into it, the better it will be.”
Scott feels Jones is a significant coup after his NR1 departure, and has added to a department that was already producing exciting results for Boro fans.
“Chris is someone I’ve worked with at previous clubs,” he continued, speaking after Jones’ arrival last year. “He’s what I call a proper scout. There’s nothing he doesn’t know about a player.
“If I was to pull a game up from 18 years ago in League Two and asked who scored the winning goal, he’d be able to tell you and the minute he scored.
“He’s that type of guy. He’s a very knowledgeable football person, he knows a lot of agents, he knows a lot of contacts at clubs. He brings a lot of experience, he’s worked for a long time in the game.
“He drives standards. There’s nowhere to hide with him, there’ll be nowhere to hide for the scouting department.”
