Today, Dec. 4, marks the first day that all college football players across the country can enter their name into the transfer portal.
Here, you will find players the Michigan Wolverines are going after, guys who have committed to the team for next season, and current Wolverines who have decided to enter the portal.
Kyle McCord stole the college football headlines on Monday morning, entering his name into the NCAA transfer portal. The junior quarterback started all 12 games this season for Ohio State, leading the Buckeyes to an 11-1 record.
It’s a surprising move for McCord, who put together a solid season in Columbus. Although he received a lot of criticism because of Ohio State’s hiccups offensively, he still threw for 3,170 yards, 24 touchdowns and only six interceptions.
“I just think that that’s kind of a long way away right now. We’re going to get back to work here, we had a practice last week, we’ll have a practice coming up this weekend,” said Day. “Guys will get out there and compete and grind and we’ll take it from there.
“I can’t sit here and tell you I know for sure on any of those things right now, but everyone’s going to have an opportunity to compete and get after it in bowl practice,” Day explained.
“And when it’s time to go play in the game, we’ll figure out who should get the reps and go from there. I don’t really have a great answer for that just yet.”
It sounds like Day knew McCord was on his way out the door. Now, the Buckeyes will likely jump into the portal to find his replacement. And there’s a ton of pressure to get it right.
Day has lost to Michigan in three consecutive years. Even though Ohio State finished the season 11-1, its offense wasn’t nearly as explosive as it had been in previous seasons.
The Buckeyes averaged 12 fewer points per game this year (32.8), compared to the 2022 season (44.2).
