Jared Goff led the Detroit Lions to a 33-28 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon. Goff completed 16 of 25 passes for 213 yards and threw two touchdown passes, while Sam LaPorta was a key target, catching nine passes for 140 yards and a touchdown.
The Lions (9-3) jumped out to a commanding 21-0 lead midway through the first quarter and managed to maintain their advantage throughout the game.
The Saints (5-7), on the other hand, faced challenges, with quarterback Derek Carr leaving the game early in the fourth quarter due to shoulder and back injuries, in addition to entering concussion protocol.
Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston took over the quarterback duties in Carr’s absence. Despite their efforts, the Saints fell short, losing their third consecutive game.
Alvin Kamara’s 2-yard touchdown run in the third quarter brought the Saints within 24-14, and Taysom Hill’s 1-yard touchdown run narrowed the gap further to 24-21.
However, Detroit responded with a field goal by Riley Patterson, extending their lead to 27-21 as the third quarter ended.
In the fourth quarter, the Lions capitalized on a fumbled snap by Carr, leading to a 19-yard touchdown run by Jameson Williams.
Carr’s replacement, Jameis Winston, managed to bring the Saints closer with Kamara’s 1-yard touchdown run, making it 33-28. However, the Lions held on for the win.
The Lions showcased a strong start, scoring 21 points in the first quarter, and their ability to maintain control secured their ninth win of the season.
