Alabama football continued to lose players to the transfer portal on Thursday. Wide receiver and special teams player Ja’Corey Brooks reportedly entered his name, according to a report by 247Sports.
Brooks joined three others who will potentially leave the Tide as it preps for No. 1 Michigan and the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Rose Bowl.
Tyler Buchner and Thaiu Jones-Bell went into the portal on Monday, the day it opened. Brooks and redshirt freshman defensive lineman Isaiah Hastings reportedly opted in this afternoon.
Brooks played in eight games this year, battling a shoulder issue all year that sidelined him against LSU on Nov. 4. Brooks hasn’t recorded a snap since. In his third year out of IMG (Fla.) Academy, Brooks was mainly a special teams player and depth-option at receiver. He recorded five touches this season, three catches, a kick return and a fielded punt.
“(Brooks) been a little hurt which has contributed to his role to some degree. But he’s been great. He’s done a great job on special teams.
He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do. When he’s gone in the game he’s done a really good job of doing what he needs to do,” Nick Saban said on Nov. 6.
In his career, Brooks tallied 57 catches, 896 yards and 10 touchdowns across 36 games. He also blocked two punts and averaged 15.6 yards per return.
Brooks led Alabama with eight receiving touchdowns a year ago, when he was three yards behind Jermaine Burton’s team-high 677 yards.
Brooks was a five-star in the class of 2021 and a top-30-rated player nationally, per 247Sports Composite.
All four of UA’s high school receiver commits from that class have now transferred, including Agiye Hall, JoJo Earle and Christian Leary. Alabama also added Jameson Williams via the portal from Ohio State.
Nick Saban said that he’d spend Monday in his office in the Mal M. Moore Atheltic Facility. To consult with players about their future. Brooks and Hastings are the latest to then decide that their futures may not be in Tuscaloosa.
Alabama’s rostered wide receivers eligible for the 2024 season include Malik Benson, Jalen Hale, Kendrick Law, Kobe Prentice, Cole Adams, Shazz Preston and verbal commits Amari Jefferson and Rico Scott. Saban was in Chattanooga, where Jefferson attends school, on Thursday.
